Jemison Commits to Bama

According to several Bama websites, Demetrius Jemison verbally committed to Alabama Wednesday evening. The power forward from Huffman High School in Birmingham, AL is expected to sign when the early signing period opens up in mid-April. Jemison joins Mikhail Torrance, Verice Cloyd, Justin Tubbs & Avery Jukes in forming Bama's 2006 recruiting class. All 5 rank as 3-star players in the Rivals.com basketball recruiting database. It is expected that Jemison finalizes the class, though Bama would technically have 1 more scholarship to give in this class at this point and 2 if Jermareo Davidson opts to jump to the NBA. Considering Bama's 2 early commitments in the class of 2007 and the lack of upperclassmen leaving and/or graduating following the 2006-2007 season, there would have to be attrition in order for the Tide to sign another player in the late period in 2006 and still accommodate the early commitments for the 2007 class. Considering Bama's interest in and offer to Rico Pickett of Decatur High School as a 3rd signee in the 2007 class, it seems clear that Bama is done for 2006.

As mentioned here previously, I believe Jemison offers the Tide a solid player that will be capable of contributing day 1. He has very good physical strength with a muscular 225 pound build and he is a quick leaper. He has solid touch from 15 feet in and can run the floor very well. Most importantly, Jemison is a gamer, plays VERY hard, and has a nose for the basketball. He is mentioned as a combo 3/4 man, but I believe he will be primarily a contributor in the post. He is a solid pickup for the Tide and will be a solid player to compliment Richard Hendrix, Yamene Coleman & Avery Jukes in the post for the Tide in the years to come.

Very good stuff...With George not coming it will be interesting if we go after a JUCO guard. I know Randall mentioned a guy from Pensacola as an option. Someone mentioned another JUCO guard from Minnesota (I think) may have interest. I love the guards that we are bringing in next year but at the same time I don't think they will be ready to give a lot of minutes next year. Cloyd is the one that is probably the most ready and he may not make it in.

With Steele, Hendrix and Gee along with a cast of supporters we should be solid next year. But the next year is fun to think about.

How does that leave Bama set for post player in two years, even assuming Davidson stays for his senior year. Has anyone seen Coleman play? Has he demonstrated the ability to add the sort of bulk and strengthed needed to play underneath the basket in the SEC? I do not know because I've never seen him play.

I think we'll know whether or not Cloyd is going to get through admissions by whether or not we offer another guard in the late period. I think Torrance is a candidate to redshirt. I think Tubbs can help us some next year. Cloyd seems to also be a candidate to help. As you accurately noted, we're going to need someone to come in and give meaningful minutes on the perimeter and if Cloyd is out, we may need more than just Tubbs and Torrance.

Notice the comment said he'd compliment Hendrix, Coleman and Jukes in the years to come. It didn't say we were set. I suspect we'll sign at least one PF/C prospect in the 07 class. In fact, I think Senario Hillman's teammate is a PF prospect.

As for Coleman, it is widely reported that he has shown very solid improvement and has point on some solid additional strength during his redshirt year. In fact, I've seen Chuck Davis quoted as saying that Yamene would be quite a force in the future. We'll see....

I've liked Demetrius Jemison for awhile now. I believe we would have signed him in the early period but eligibility concerns probably got in the way.

I believe Demetrius will average about five minutes a game behind Alonzo Gee at the 3-guard and play some at forward. He will be a valuable 4-year player for us.

I also heard from a good source a few weeks ago that Stanley Robinson told us just a couple of days before signing day that he was going to sign with us.
