Hoops signee Tony Mitchell fails to qualify after all

Is it just me or does it seem like the only news we get is bad news concerning the basketball team.

I think with the new "acting" A.D. just sneaking into the tournament won't be enough.

Don't be so down on the team... we're undefeated as of now. :)

Not good, not good at all. If he can enroll in the winter semester, does that mean he would be eligible in January, and thus at least available for the SEC schedule? It seems I remember Jamal Faulkner joining the team mid-season many years ago....

Let's just hope he doesn't become another Glenn Miles.

Being that he's not enrolled in the fall I don't think he can be eligible in the spring.

Glenn Miles, Ray George, etc... we shall see.

BamaOnline.com reported today that Mitchell has enrolled at Central Park Christian.

"Mitchell, a 6-foot-6 former prep standout from Swainsboro, Ga., did not qualify academically to join the Crimson Tide this season. The issue with the NCAA Clearinghouse was thought to deal with Mitchell's test scores.

He still could qualify for spring semester and join Alabama's team in 2008-09, but likely will remain at Central Park for the duration of the school year and re-sign with the Tide."

Man, this sucks. I'm not sure how much Mitchell would have contributed his first year, but it's not a good omen heading into the year.
I hope we don't receive any more news about Bama because bobbyjack is right, it's all bad.
