Anthony Grant Establishes Fund to Assist Tornado Victims

In a nice gesture, Anthony Grant has set up the Sweet Home Fund Mission in an effort to help those who have been affected by the storms that went through Tuscaloosa and other ares of the state earlier this week. The fund has been set up through the Bryant Bank on 1150 N. McFarland Avenue in Tuscaloosa. I do not know yet of a web site being set up for donations, but a phone number was provided to the media. That number is 205-464-4646.

I hope Trevor Lacy can see how his talents and abilities are able to have an effect on the world around him. On a shallow level, his decision is all about himself, but on a deeper level of reality, his decision brings much more far-reaching consequences.

If he comes to UA and contributes to a successful Crimson Tide Basketball Program, he will help the economics in Tuscaloosa through a winning and vibrant basketball program, and ultimately assist in the recovery and rebuilding of a devastated Tuscaloosa and State. How needful we are for the hurt and pain of the tornados to transform into pride and hope.

If he goes to a SEC rival and seeks to contribute to the defeat of UA, then he is taking steps to harm the city's and state's potential in recovery and growth. Winning athletic programs bring an improvement in local economic conditions. Note how gymnastics and softball have helped UA and Tuscaloosa, with nation-leading attendance numbers.

If he selects an out-of-state school, tears will be produced in the eyes of multitudes across the state, where we love to see our hometown stars emerge as stars for the Universities we LOVE, as we are able to follow their careers through local TV, Radio, Newspapers, game by game.

If he does not choose Kentucky, Kansas, or Connecticut, their fans will hardly blink an eye, and will quickly look elsewhere, and will easily forget. Of course they have put on a 'show' whenever in Trevor's view and "showed love" to him, but it's all an illusion.

Coach Grant, through his voluntary hands-on work to assist tornado victims and this Fund, is genuine about embracing his Crimson Tide Family and caring for them. In contrast, there is another coach talking to Trevor who is pursuing to advance his own status and taking on interests beyond his school or locality, and there's no telling what's next for him.

My heart goes out for all of those affected by the tornados and we look for brighter days ahead.
