Recruiting Update: Bad News

Most of you have probably already heard, but Cat Barber has committed to NC State.  I wish he would have consulted with Ron Steele before signing up to play point guard for Mark Gottfried.  Also, RaShawn Powell, another highly rated point guard committed to Memphis over Bama and Illinois.

This is bad news because Alabama currently has no PG on deck to take the reins when Releford leaves unless Retin surprises. I'm not sure if there are any viable candidates out there right now, but I hope to see some more PG recruits show up on the radar.

Lacey is gonna have to do his best Allen Iverson impression it seems.

Lacey isn't that type of player, Releford does have two more years though.
Look guys, we aren't going to land big classes until we do something about our facilities.
Get rid of Coleman and give the Bball players upgraded practice facilities, player lounge, film and workout rooms, etc.
Follow the Florida model, they made big commitments($$$) to all of their sports and they are good in basically everything they compete in.

Alex, I agree on Coleman, but let's not use Florida as an example. They have made $$ commitments to their coaching staff, but their basketball facilities are AUful. Have you ever been to the O-dome? It's a complete dump, one of the two or three worst in the SEC.

well, you know gottfried enjoyed that.

just in case you're reading this, mark (and don't we all know he is) f**k you man.

you know, it's hard to believe now, in 1996 i was arguing with bob bockrath in a call to the paul finebaum show about new facilities for basketball. his argument was basically, 'hey, this ain't kentucky, buddy'.

no, i haven't. but i can tell you this, after watching on tv and, particularly, listening to our broadcast from there over the years, it's a damn tough out.

i don't know our record there but i bet it makes our record in nashville look tame by comparison.

from "busting brackets":

"Barber’s academic struggles and off-the-court troubles chased off droves of big-name schools, allowing NC State to jump into the fray fairly late in the recruitment. Only Alabama, Louisville, Kansas and Florida State had extended offers to Barber that remained on the table by the time Gottfried and his staff got involved. And of those four, only Alabama continued to pursue Barber with much vigor.
One source tells Busting Brackets that Louisville, once thought to be a frontrunner in this recruitment, backed off of Barber after his visit to the campus last weekend. Cardinals players, according to the source, suspected Barber of stealing some of their belongings during the trip. The players reported their suspicions to the coaching staff, which then summarily backed out of the recruitment. Louisville has since shifted its sights on Florida JuCo point guard Chris Jones, who is on the Louisville campus this weekend."

dude.

of course.
