Mi$$ State preview and a blurb about our Women's team

Remember our one big blowout win in conference? It was against these guys in $tarkville. They might even suck more since the last time we played them. $tate comes into the game tomorrow losers of 10 straight (we started their losing streak). Only 2 of their SEC losses have been within 10 points. Looks like $tan$bury took all the ca$h with him.

$tate $tat$

$tate is 7-17 overall, 2-10 in conference. Craig Sword and Fred Thomas lead their potent scoring attack at 10.2 and 10.0 PPG. Neither is hitting 40% from the field. Gavin Ware leads in rebounds while Jalen Steele and Tyson Cunningham (averaging 2.4 PPG) are the only ones hitting above 30% from beyond the arc. This is a really bad team people... seriously could be the worst we face this season. They really are good at nothing on the court. If I see any fretting in comments about this game before tip-off I'm putting you on a 24hr banned list (g).

Mi$$ $t game notes if you are interested.

Some #s:
- .406 FG
-  .278 3pt FG
- -3.3 rebound margin
- 60.7 PPG

We should beat their brains in like we did in $tarkville. Heck, DJC might come off the bench and hit a couple 3s just to rub it in on our hated rival on US 82.

Game time is 8PM EST Wednesday on the SEC Network. I haven't seen a WatchESPN.com confirmation as of yet.

A really quick blurb about the state of our women's basketball program... I could coach them to 3 SEC wins for about 1/2 the price of what Wendell Hudson is making. Heck, I'd HAHR DJC, MSmilie, my 7 YO, and some random readers, save the University serious jack and still get what we are seeing out there. I admit I have ZERO interest in women's basketball, but being as AUful as we are for the money being spent (300K/yr) is maddening. What's Rick Moody up to these days?

Excuse the typos... I'll recheck this evening and correct them as I see them.

$tate suspended a player and may be down to 5 scholarship players and 2 walkons for our game. There is no reason we should not be able to run them to death and pull away in the second half.

I forgot to add Jalen Steele was suspended from the team indefinetly last week. I hope we beat them by 40.

Hopefully we snap out of our offensive funk in a big way and score 80 or something. We need some momentum going into this last stretch of the season. LSU, Florida, and Ole Miss

Roquez Johnson was suspended last week. Jalen Steele was suspended some time ago, but may return against us.

Been a cold shooting game so far. Miss State is so so bad. I wish we had a bigger lead but we have not made very many shots that aren't layups. I hope we shoot it a little bit better in the second half. There are alot of empty seats in Coleman, I wish they would let people move down into the empty seats by the court after about 10 minutes. I think Alabama has more season ticket holders that don't give a crap about basketball than any other program in the nation.

Forgot today was Wed. Pulled up ESPN3 to see we have a 47-43 lead late against a team we took to the woodshed in $tarkvegas. Why am I not surprised. Bama bball is what it is...like Kentucky in football. And don't flame about how we are 2nd in SEC. It's like being 2nd in Big East football.

We gave up 36 pts in the second half to a team that had to play their towel boy. Not sure why Jacobs or Pollard have regressed from HS other than Grant doesn't know how to coach big men or offense. We have way too much athleticism to have no offense. We lose by 10+ in Baton Rouge...

Dude, it was like a tomb in Coleman tonight. The team was searching for energy any way it could find it. Frankly, I'm happy with the way they started and ended the game despite having to fight the lethargy that hung over the game. Our fans should be ashamed. This team isn't playing the prettiest basketball, but they're second in the league. Regardless of how good or bad the SEC is, if you live within reasonable driving distance, get your ass out to the game and support these guys. Every time I hear Bama fans talk about their passion, I have to stifle gut laughs. Yep, that Bama passion doesn't even sell out football games anymore, and Bama football is the best there is right now. I don't wanna hear shit from so called Bama fans about this team's energy and passion to win when fans of the second place team in the conference can't fill half the arena for a 7 PM tip.

We need to play our best game of the season thus far to win at LSU. Levi doesn't have any confidence in his shot right now. I don't know exactly what his numbers were but he missed several shots including an open three which he air balled. He also missed both free throws on a trip to the line which indicates he is thinking too much about it and probably is a little bit nervous. He needs to see a few drop for him but right now we just need to stick with the hot hands. Cooper, Releford, and Lacey had 48 of our 64 points tonight. I am disappointed in Jacobs, he can't seem together to string together big games. I don't know if he loafs in practice after he turns in a good game or what but it is frustrating.

Even under Wimp, with a packed Memorial Coliseum, the blue hairs would make you sit down if you stood up in front of them. Most Bama bball fans are like Vandy football fans, it's something to do to keep them off the streets.

Drove 2 hrs each way to every home game for 10 yrs when I lived in AL. Moved to East coast last summer, but still went to NYC and watched Bama beat OSU and Nova in MSG. Drove down to Richmond and watched VCU bitchslap us around their gym. So I am getting my ass out to support Bama bball. Again, 2nd in SEC bball this year is like 2nd in Big East football. Bama would be 7th in the Atlantic 10. I want Bama bball to measure up with the best in the country, not a weak SEC. If Gonzaga can have the #3 team in the country, with out resources, shouldn't we expect more?!

That said, I hope Bama wins out. Like the football fanatics I have a pissy night when Bama bball loses. Doesn't mean I can't make an honest assessment of the program. Not poor mouthing the team. Being critical of the coaching. I was thrilled with the Grant hire but he has some fundamental issues to fix and soon. I want him to succeed because if Mal has to fire him all of us will be labeled racists by the SEC haters. (Trust me there was a ton of hate at MSG and that was before football won another NC.)

My point is winning ugly when you shouldn't will cost you games you should win (@Tenn, @Auburn). LSU will win because Bryant will own our two-headed big man, Moussa Jacobs. Only reason Gators don't win by 20+ is if Donovan calls off the dogs against Grant. Ole Piss will suddenly find their shooting touch and Henderson will torch us for 30. Can't remember the last time a Bama bball team played well in the Tad Pad.

Gueye looked like he was going to thunderdunk and when he clanged the ball off the backboard from 1 foot away and it bounced to the free throw line all I could think was....dayammmm

You would have a point about the SEC being like Big east football, if Big East football had won 3 of the past 6 national titles.

crimsontider said...

Wow tough loss tonight. Oh wait we won, we are 10-3 in the SEC and one game out of first place. Maybe somebody should inform some of our "Fans" about this, because judging by some of the comments they don't appear to know.

crimsontider said...

As for the game, it was not a thing of beauty, but it was not as close as the final score indicated, State hit a bunch of garbage time 3s at the end. Another noticeable thing was the officiating, especially from Doug Shows who might be the worst official in college basketball. The Trevor Lacey technical was garbage, and so was the fact that MSU did not get a technical despite huddling up before a FT without calling a timeout. Shows clearly has a vendetta against Alabama, this happens every time he refs one of our games. I don't know why Mal Moore, and Coach Grant continually put up with it.

Mitchell Smilie said...

Jacobs needs to be pushed to improve. Right now, with no frontcourt depth, Nick knows he's going to play. The return of Engstrom, the continued development of Gueye and Pollard, and the arrival of Taylor and Hale will force him to improve or he's going to lose minutes.

well, bitch all you want, bud. the fact is crowds HAVE shown up this season and crap basketball is what they got for their money and time. i GAVE tickets to customers for last nites game.

they didn't go. why??

because of the inferior product they saw at the arkansas game i gave them tickets to.

and i don't blame them one bit. or anybody else who doesn't show up to see this garbage. i've played in rec leagues that had better quality basketball.

Finebammer, would you rather win ugly or lose 82-78?
